What’s the best time to go to the beach for escorts in the South Bend area?
Posted May 08, 2018 04:29:11 South Bend, Indiana, is home to some of the most popular beaches in the country, with hundreds of thousands of people flocking to the city each summer to visit.
Many of those visitors are escorts.
The South Bend Escorts Association has developed a series of guidelines to help guide the local escorts industry, and is hoping to have the recommendations adopted by the South End Commission for a pilot program.
“We are in a difficult time,” said Sharon Richey, president of the South Bay Escorts, a nonprofit organization that advocates for escorting workers and provides training.
“There are many people who have been working in the escort industry for 20 years and they don’t want to do it anymore.
We need to work together to find a solution.”
Richeys group is working with the South Beach Escorts Alliance and the South Central Escorts Project to develop guidelines to protect and support the escorts community.
They are also asking for the commission to consider requiring the city to adopt a minimum wage that would cover escorts as part of the minimum wage ordinance.
The commission has not yet responded to the group’s letter.
“I think that the South Side has had a lot of work to do and it’s going to take time to work out the kinks,” Richeies group said in a statement.
“The city needs to have a clear set of rules and guidelines to govern this industry.”
A recent survey conducted by the American Association of Accredited Exhibitors of Escorts (AAEES) revealed that South Bend is the only city in Indiana with a minimum-wage ordinance that would require escorts to be paid at least $15 an hour.
A majority of the surveyed respondents in the survey said that the city should allow for a minimum of two weeks of vacation per year.
The city has a “living wage” that is $12.55 an hour, but many people are not paid that minimum wage and some live in poverty.
According to the AAEES, many escort workers are forced to live on the street, where they face daily physical abuse, verbal harassment, theft and homelessness.
The AAEEs survey also found that a large majority of escorts are either single or are in relationships with a former escort.
“Our experience working in escorts and working with people who are working in their profession makes it clear that the people who need to be protected are the people that are working for the industry,” Rischetti said.
“If the city wants to look at this and be proactive and take action, it should take steps to ensure that the workers are protected.”
Rischens group has also asked the South Shore Commission to develop a policy that would protect the safety and well-being of the escort industry workers.
“Many of the people we work with are in their early 20s and are still in school,” Risheys group said.
The guidelines are being developed through the Southside Escorts Initiative, a group that is trying to improve the lives of escorting in the area.
It’s been in place for three years, but it is only about 30% funded, said Rischenis group president Karen Rischeny.
The group is also trying to raise money for the group by creating and hosting a fundraiser to raise the $30,000 that the organization needs to get the guidelines adopted.
Rischeys organization is also working to create and expand a program that would provide paid family leave for escort workers and other workers in the industry.
“A lot of these people are very low income and need the support of their families,” Risiys group’s director of public affairs, Sarah Burch, said.
Burch said that many escorts work a job where they are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
“That’s really what our jobs are, to support our families,” she said.
But she added that there are a number of other issues that are keeping many escorting companies out of business.
“In addition to working on minimum wage, there are also a lot other issues, such as the environment, social and cultural issues that come into play,” Burch added.
“You have to have someone in charge that will actually look at these issues and make sure that it’s safe.”
Escorts are among the most dangerous professions in the U.S., with a rate of violent crime that is double that of the average adult.
According the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were 1,818 reported rapes, 1,069 robberies, 6,924 aggravated assaults, 5,935 burglaries and 4,869 sexual assaults in the United States in 2016.
The number of rapes per 100,000 population in South Bend was 4.3, which is nearly three times the national average of 1.9.
