How to get an Uber in the city of Tampa
Tampa, Florida (Reuters) – You need a permit to drive in Tampa, and you need to apply within two weeks of the date you get your license.
The rules are simple: Uber drivers are required to show a valid driver’s license, have insurance and be at least 21 years old.
They must also provide a vehicle identification number.
The rideshare services are available through UberX, which has gained popularity in the Tampa Bay area, where the city has more than 2 million residents.
UberX drivers can be licensed by the city, or by a licensed driver.
The city has about 10,000 licensed drivers, many of whom have to pass the written tests to get their license.
Uber drivers pay $30 to $35 a trip.
Uber says it does not have a specific number of drivers.
It has been providing rides since at least July.
UberX has not yet been approved by the state.
The state Department of Transportation, which regulates UberX in Florida, has not received a complaint about the service, spokesman Sean Houser said.
“We are in discussions with the state,” Housers said.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Uber is testing UberX service in the Orlando area.
